The Apeejay Stya Group organised the 11^th Indian Obstetrics and Gynaecology (IOG) Dr. Stya Paul Awards 2024-25 at New Delhi on 2^nd March, 2025. The Awards have been instituted to recognise outstanding contributory articles in the field of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. This highly-anticipated event has become an annual fixture of the research and medical community. 

This endeavour has been undertaken by Apeejay Stya Group, which selflessly publishes the IOG Journal, as a service to the medical fraternity to provide a platform for the practicing & budding gynaecologists to improve their knowledge about recent practices and their clinical outcomes. The IOG Journal publishes original research articles, review articles, case reports, letters to the editor, book reviews and relevant scientific information in the field of obstetrics & gynaecology and infertility. 

The highlight of the event was an illuminating oration lecture by Dr. Errico Zupi, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Siena, Italy.  He is the Former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Disorders and Former Advisor to American Association of Gynaecologic Laparoscopists. He addressed the audience on the topic ‘‘Maximizing Ultrasound Utility Across Obstetrics & Gynaecology’’.

The focus of the presentation was on the role of ultrasound in obstetrics and gynaecology, highlighting its evolution, applications, and technological advancements. It covered how ultrasound had transformed maternal and foetal health assessment, from early static imaging to real-time dynamic visualization, Doppler ultrasound, and 3D/4D imaging. Key topics included were use in pregnancy monitoring, detection of foetal anomalies, evaluation of gynecological conditions, and its role in assisted reproductive technologies. 

Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya and Svran Group, and daughter of Dr. Stya Paul said, Ultrasound is a key first line imaging modality in obstetrics and gynaecology. It is cheap, painless, inexpensive and has a long safety record in pregnancy. With advancements in technology, ultrasound is now more precise, and accessible than ever before. From early pregnancy assessments to foetal anomaly detection and gynecological evaluations, it plays a vital role in improving maternal and foetal outcomes.” 

Mr. Nishant Berlia, Mr. Aditya Berlia and Dr. Neha Berlia – Co-owners and Directors (Family Business Board) - Apeejay Stya and Svran Group, also graced the occasion. All of them are grandchildren of Dr. Stya Paul, who are leading the various verticals of the group, under the overarching leadership of Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia. 

The IOG Dr. Stya Paul Awards 2024 were presented in three distinct categories – Best Original Study, Best Review Article and Best Case Report. 

Dr. Abhijit Kher, Director, Niraamay Mother Care Center, Borivali, Mumbai, was honoured in the category of ‘Best Original Study’ for ‘Minilaparotomy Hysterectomy — A Modified Abdominal Hysterectomy with Advantages of Minimal Access Surgery’. 

Dr. Paridhi Gupta, Assistant Professor, Jamia Hamdard University and HAHC hospital, New Delhi, was awarded in the category of ‘Best Review Article’ for ‘Induction of Labour — Recent Updates’. 

Dr. Shiralee Runwal, Fellowship in Reproductive Medicine at Fortis, Mumbai, was honoured in the category of ‘Best Case Report’ for ‘Hepatic Rupture in Near-Term Pregnancy’. 

The respective doctors conducted a presentation series followed by the announcement of the awards. 

Apeejay Stya Group also instituted as many as eight new awards in the realms of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. For these new awards, an independent esteemed Jury for selecting the candidate was constituted. 

Dr Narendra Malhotra (Managing Director- Global Rainbow Healthcare & Director- ART Rainbow IVF, Agra) and Dr Rishma Dhillon Pai (Honorary consultant Gynaecologist at the Lilavati, Jaslok and Hinduja Hospitals, Mumbai), were honoured ‘Lifetime Achievement’ Award. 

Dr. Vivek Marwah, Director, Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecology at Max Super Speciality Hospital, New Delhi, was awarded in the category of ‘Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology’. 

Dr. Ameet Patki, Medical Director Fertility Associates, Mumbai, was awarded in the category of ‘Excellence in Infertility Treatment’ Award. Dr. Kiran Pandey, Prof & Former HOD, Dept of Obs & Gynec, GSVM Medical College, Kanpur, was awarded in the category of ‘Excellence in Menopause Research’. 

Dr.  Harsha Khullar, Senior Consultant Gynecologist & Obstetrician at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Delhi, was awarded in the category of ‘Excellence in High-risk Pregnancy Management’. 

Dr. N Rajamaheswari, Head, Department of Urogynaecology, Chennai Urology & Robotic Institute, Chennai, was awarded in the category of ‘Excellence in Urogynecology’. 

Dr. Amita Maheshwari, Professor & Head, Department of Gyneccologic Oncology, Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, was awarded in the category of ‘Excellence in Gynecologic Oncology’. 

Dr Supriya Hajela, Director and IVF Coordinator of ART & Reproductive Center, at Hajela Hospital, Bhopal, was awarded in the category of ‘Emerging Star in Obstetrics & Gynecology’. 

The event proved to be a great networking platform for doctors and practitioners wherein they shared their knowledge & experiences with each other as well as with other delegates present on the occasion.
