The Awards have been instituted to recognise outstanding contributory articles in the field of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. This highly-anticipated event has become an annual fixture of the research and medical community.

This endeavour has been undertaken by Apeejay Stya and Svran Group, which selflessly publishes the IOG Journal, as a service to the medical fraternity to provide a platform for the practicing & budding gynaecologists to improve their knowledge about recent practices and their clinical outcomes. The IOG Journal publishes original research articles, review articles, case reports, letters to the editor, book reviews and relevant scientific information in the field of obstetrics & gynaecology and infertility.

The highlight of the event was an illuminating oration lecture by Dr. Ricardo Azziz, an internationally recognized physician, scientist, and executive. His biomedical research focuses on the study of androgen excess disorders in women, having published eleven books and over 500 original peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and reviews. He is the founder and former Executive Director/Senior Executive Director of the Androgen Excess & PCOS Society. He is also the founder and current Executive Director of the Foundation for Research and Education Excellence (FREE Foundation). He addressed the audience on the topic ‘Metabolic Syndrome in Women: Unravelling the Complexities and Implementing Effective Strategies.’

The presentation focused on “Metabolic Syndrome in Women” which is one of the major complications in women. Metabolic dysfunction affects a broad swath of the population in most countries. Metabolic dysfunction can lead to increased risks of impaired glucose homeostasis, cardiovascular disease (CVD), metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, sleep apnoea, cholelithiasis, gout, depression, and more. Clinically metabolic dysfunction presents in various forms, including the Metabolic Syndrome (MetSx), the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), the Hyperandrogenic-Insulin Resistant-Acanthosis Nigricans (HAIRAN) Syndrome, Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and a variety of less common syndromes and disorders. The most effective tool for diagnosing metabolic dysfunction in PCOS is the 2-hr. 75 gm oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). Therapeutically, lifestyle modification, metformin, thiazolidinediones, glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) agonists, and sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT-2) inhibitors may be of value.

Mrs. Sushma Paul Berlia, Chairman, Apeejay Stya and Svran Group, said, “Metabolic syndrome is a health concern for women, affecting a significant number across the globe. It is a cluster of conditions, including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist, and abnormal cholesterol levels. This can lead to serious health issues like heart disease, hypertension and diabetes and is also associated with PCOS in many women. PCOS manifestations have many adverse impacts on the young girls which are not only medical manifestations but also psychosocial issues like low self-esteem, depression and poor social interaction. As PCOS and metabolic syndrome affects a significant population and these patients often consult your specialty it is important to have greater awareness and insights to provide holistic management.”

Mr. Nishant Berlia, Dr. Neha Berlia and Mr. Aditya Berlia – all Co-Promoters of Apeejay Stya and Svran Group graced the occasion. Mr. Nishant Berlia delivered the welcome address, Dr. Neha Berlia shared a detailed introduction of Dr. Ricardo Azziz and Mr. Aditya Berlia proposed the vote of thanks.
