Abstract

I am glad to inscribe the Editor’s Desk for the current edition of IOG with great satisfaction due to the smooth operation of previous issues and the successful conclusion of the IOG Dr. Stya Paul Awards 2022. The IOG Dr. Stya Paul Awards event oration lecture on ‘How to democratise and standardise surgeries with special reference to Minimal Invasive Gynecology’’ was delivered by Dr. Camran R. Nezhat, Clinical Professor of OBGYN University of California San Francisco School of Medicine; Former Chair Association of Adjunct Clinical Faculty, Deputy Chief of the Department of OBGYN, and Adjunct Clinical Professor of Surgery and OBGYN at Stanford University Medical School. Dr. Nezhat is recipient of AMA’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award for meritorious service in the science and art of medicine for the year 2020.

This issue of the journal has published one original study in the Obstetric section. Drs. Jayaraman Nambiar and Priya Patil from Manipal conducted the study that came to the conclusion that severe preeclampsia is related to low serum calcium and calcium-magnesium ratio.

There are four fascinating case reports in the section on obstetrics. Drs. Shravi Singh and Shehla Jamal give the first case report on “Postpartum pituitary apoplexy masking as postpartum eclampsia.” Second trimester uterine rupture is the subject of the second case report. The third case report is from Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai and describes an unintentional pregnancy in a woman who had cystic fibrosis and severe lung damage. The fourth case is of a woman who is 13 weeks pregnant and had a big 30-week intramural myoma, along with complaints of abdominal pain and pressure.

In gynaecology section, we have two original studies. The first study conducted by Dr. Abhijit Ramesh Kher evaluated the feasibility, advantages, complications, and limitations of mini-laparotomy hysterectomy. The effectiveness and safety of the ER: YAG laser in the treatment of stress urine incontinence is the second study by Dr. Vidya Pancholia and her colleagues from Indore.

In this current issue we have three case report in the gynaecology section. Three case reports are included in the gynaecology section of this issue. The first case report on vulval filariasis in a 55-year-old postmenopausal female is provided by Dr. Pooja Patil and her team. The second case report describes a complicated mullerian abnormality in a 15-year-old single female who had primary amenorrhea and cyclical lower abdomen pain at the time of the exam. In the last case, a 35-year-old woman in reproductive age who had an incomplete abortion and vaginal bleeding is reported to have microfilaria in her endometrial histology.

To help IOG reach greater heights, we encourage researchers to submit high quality manuscripts to the IOG journal that describe their original clinical research findings and a thorough literature review that are relevant to current clinical practise. They can also report novel diagnostic paradigms or summarise their treatment experiences.
