Abstract

Background: Symptomatic abdominal wandering spleen is likely to be confused with twisted ovarian tumour.

Case report: A 32-year-old nulliparous woman presented with acute abdomen. She was wrongly diagnosed as a case of twisted ovarian tumour and underwent laparotomy for the same. On laparotomy, diagnosis of twisted wandering spleen was made. Splenectomy along with resection of adherent small bowel was executed. The patient made an uneventful post-operative recovery.

Conclusion: Any case of lump abdomen is to be investigated thoroughly to clinch the most probable diagnosis before any intervention.
