Abstract
Aim: To identify the role of condom catheter in managing postpartum haemorrhage
Materials & Methods: This prospective study was done on 180 cases of postpartum haemorrhage, out of which 94 cases were managed by condom catheter and the remaining cases were managed by medical treatment and other surgical methods.
Results: In majority of the cases PPH was controlled with condom catheter with the mean volume of 389.4 ml but it could be inflated upto 500ml and also bleeding was stopped within 10 minutes in 90.4% cases. Patients did not require further intervention.
Conclusion: Thus, it was contemplated in our study that condom catheter is a highly effective, simple to use and economical method in managing postpartum haemorrhage in a developing country like India to save the lives of patients.
