Aortoarteritis, also known as Takayasu's arteritis (TA) and pulseless disease is a rare vascular disorder that can cause progressive damage including inflammation, scarring and narrowing of aorta and major arteries. Suppression of inflammation and preservation of vascular competence are the aims of treatment. Because Takayasu arteritis predominantly affects women of reproductive age, the issue of pregnancy is important. Fertility is not adversely affected, pregnancy per se does not appear to exacerbate the disease, but management of hypertension is essential.
